The Michigan State University ITAC (Industrial Training and Assessment Center) is a U.S. Department of Energy-funded center located at MSU. In collaboration with Henry Ford College and Michigan Tech, this Center focuses on improving the energy efficiency and sustainability of small manufacturing and commercial buildings across the state of Michigan.
The Department of Energy (DOE) has awarded MSU $2.25 million over the next five years for this effort, which will support Michigan’s small and medium-sized manufacturers and commercial buildings. This is part of a national DOE initiative that began in 1976 and now funds 36 IACs across the country.
Our Mission
With over 6,200 small and medium manufacturers (SMEs) in Michigan, our team aims to conduct at least 20 manufacturing and 10-15 commercial building assessments per year. Students and faculty will be trained on the process of industrial and commercial building energy assessments to be prepared to perform them in small groups. As a result, we are building and expanding a knowledgeable and diverse energy workforce pipeline at MSU/MTU/HFC, which educates and trains college-level students through a structured, hands-on educational program.
